Today we investigated grass seeds and planted some to make grass heads. They were excited to be responsible for watering their grass each day. We were curious to see what happens when we put seeds in water and sunlight with no soil, seeds in soil with sunlight but no water, and seeds with water and soil but no sunlight. We shall see what happens!

We have inquired into different forms of measurement. Today we used our pan balance and play dough to experiment with finding items that were equal weight. They chose an item and had to estimate an amount of play dough that weighed the same. Later this week we will practice more estimating. 🙂

A habitat is home or place where an animal lives, eats and finds all the things they need to survive. We went to the woods and made so many discoveries! We found evidence of many living things! Ask you kiddo what they found in the woods habitat.

With this beautiful weather we decided to have snack, reading, and word work outside. What wonderful readers and writers they are becoming! It brings me so much joy to see them choosing to make books and reading during their free choice!

During Genius Hour we created traps to try and catch a leprchaun tonight! They are so creative and worked so well toge

We have been busy this week finishing our instruments, practicing patterns, and evaluating ourselves. Tomorrow we will continue evaluating and start reflecting on our unit.

In math we have been working on using different strategies for subtraction. Today they were able to create a subtraction number story and solve it any way they chose. They then shared their number story and strategy with their groups. Speaking of strategies, ask you child how we used post it notes as a form of measurement and if they were tall enough to ride the roller coaster. 🙂

During Daily 5 we have been working on some Dr Seuss writing. Today we came up with the idea of creating our own silly characters similar to Dr Seuss’ characters. We have also been inquiring into word families. They have so much creating words using word families. This would be a fun activity to do at home. 🙂

Ask your child to share some of their knowledge with you. Everyday we take time to reflect on our day at school. They love sharing something new they have learned, a problem they were able to solve, or something they are curious about.

It was a wacky Wednesday!

We had a wacky day celebrating Dr Seuss’s birthday! These kiddos are working very hard getting their instruments ready. They have been risk-takers and problem solvers creating what they want and figuring out how to fix things that aren’t going as planned. We will continue working on them this week. Next week will do self assessments and reflections for the end of our unit.

Yesterday we read There’s a Wocket in my Pocket and made wockets to spend the day with us. We had a lot of fun coming up with silly rhymes and creating make believe characters like Dr Seuss. Today we read Fox in Socks and read some silly tongue twisters, they thought it was hilarious. We are excited for Wacky Wednesday and Cat in the Hat Thursday!

In math, we have been inquiring into 3-D shapes. Ask your child what they discovered when they stamped the 3-D shapes! The items you sent in for the shape museum will be coming home by Thursday.

February 24, 2022

We have been reading The Mitten by Jan Brett. After we read the book we did many activities to encourage our thoughts beyond the story. Today they will be bringing home their own mitten and characters to retell the story at home.

We collected a lot of items for our 3-D shape museum. We worked hard on sorting them into different categories. Tomorrow we will inquire more into 3-D shapes to see what shapes appear when we stamp them. To follow up at home, have your kiddo point out and identify 3-D shapes they see at home.

Reminder that scholastic books orders will be placed tomorrow. 🙂

Happy TWOsday!

Today we had fun with 2-22-22 falling on a Tuesday! It was all about 2s! We counted skip counted by 2’s, practiced showing different ways to represent the number 2, and tried to see how many sight words we could write in 22 seconds!

Tomorrow we will be creating our 3-D shape museum. If you would like to send something in please send it tomorrow. 🙂
